Artist Statement

My favorite art material is paint, manly acrylic or oil paint. I like using paint more than any other materials because I like the way it looks and how it flows one the type of medium you are using. I enjoy making art because I can express myself in many ways and it gets my creative side out. I also love how a finished product makes me feel. I usually begin a piece of artwork with an image or object that inspires me or makes me think of something.

I do the work I do because of the way it makes me feel and they way others feel when they look at a piece of work I do. It makes me feel inspired and it makes me want to continue making art. Making any artwork is always hard during the time you are making it but as soon as you are done you get that sigh of relieve and that right there is why I do what I do, for that little bit of relief when the artwork is finally done and the way the piece has turned out better than you imagined.

I usually take a very long time to make decisions on what I want to create, it takes me so long because I never have an idea before I go in. I usually have to see something and then I get inspired to create something. Then once the decision is made the rest is easy from there because from my idea I can usually see in my head how I want it to look which helps me pick the medium and the material i’ll use. During the creation of the artwork not many decisions are made, but I am a perfectionist so it's hard sometimes when the piece doesn’t look like how I imagined it. But I eventually get back on track and then the artwork is finished and my decision from there is if I want to show it to people or keep it to myself.

My current work is a painting, that I started awhile ago and then stopped and then started up again. It still isn’t finished because it isn’t what I pictured perfectly so I get frustrated with it and take a break from it. It really doesn’t have a theme or or anything specific to it. This Project has grown from prior works because now I feel like I know different things and I can let the painting and inspiration take me where it wants to. The work has shown that many of my life experiences has helped me create it. I am exploring acrylic paint and different ways of putting it onto a canvas, (adding water, not adding water).  I’m attempting to really challenge myself with this work by using different techniques and researching other artists and using bits from other artists to create my own kind of artwork.
